Steam Cloud saves explained
2026 update: The Steam PC release uses Steam Cloud. The older browser build synced via Firebase Auth — that stack is archived and no longer offered on this site.
How it works today
When Steam Cloud is enabled for CONTRABAND in your Steam settings, the client uploads save data after sessions and downloads it when you sign in on another PC. Conflicts are resolved by Steam’s usual “newest timestamp wins” behavior.
What you need
- A Steam account signed into the client on each machine.
- Steam Cloud enabled globally and for CONTRABAND (right-click the game → Properties → General).
- A stable connection when exiting the game so uploads can finish.
Browser era (archived)
Previously, Google sign-in through Firebase could mirror saves to Firestore. That path applied only to the retired web build. Saves from that era do not automatically migrate to Steam — treat Steam as a fresh start unless a future tool is announced.
