Privacy Policy

CONTRABAND: Edge of the Fold is a small independent project. We collect the minimum amount of data needed to make the Game work and to honor your purchases, and we don't sell or rent it to anyone. Here's exactly what that looks like in practice.

What we collect

Game progress

Stored locally in your browser (localStorage). Never transmitted by default.

Account (optional)

If you sign in to sync purchases: user ID, email, provider (Google/anon), and the list of DLC you own. Stored in Google Firebase.

Payments

Handled entirely by Stripe. We receive a transaction ID, product ID, last-4 of the card, and the status (paid / refunded / disputed). We never see your full card number.

Support email

If you email contact@edgeofthefold.com, we keep the thread until your issue is resolved plus up to 12 months for tax/refund audit.

Anonymized telemetry

Play session counts, error traces, and coarse performance metrics. No names, no IPs logged server-side beyond standard web server logs kept 14 days. Crash reports (version, stack trace, browser UA, game state phase) are captured via /api/error-report with automatic redaction of any tokens that happen to appear in a stack trace. Opt out any time with localStorage.setItem('reporter.optOut', '1').

What we don't collect

No third-party ad trackers. No Google Analytics. No Facebook Pixel. No session replay.
No voice recordings, no microphone access, no camera access.
No sale or rental of any personal data to anyone, for any reason.

How voice narration works

The in-game voice narration uses your browser's built-in SpeechSynthesis API. Text is synthesized locally by your operating system. We do not upload the story text to any cloud service.

Cookies

We set no tracking cookies. We use localStorage for your game state and a small session token if you sign in. You can clear both at any time via your browser settings.

Children

The Game is not directed at children under 13. If a parent discovers that a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Access / export: email contact@edgeofthefold.com and we'll send you everything tied to your account within 14 days.
Deletion: same. Deletion removes the account and entitlement record. Stripe retains a minimal transaction record for 7 years as required by US tax law — we can't shorten that.
Correction: same.
Complaints: we're in Texas; if you're in the EU/UK, you can escalate to your local DPA.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will update the "last updated" date and, for registered users, send a notice to the email on file.
